Northern MP McCrea’s protection plan under review

A decision to withdraw special protection from the Reverend William McCrea is being reviewed after he won re-election as an MP.

Northern police had removed protection after the DUP man failed to defend his South Antrim seat four years ago.

His status in the close protection scheme meant he was granted an armoured car and armed police protection for the past 23-years but when he ceased to be an MP he was informed it was to be withdrawn.

The 56-year old gospel singer applied for a judicial review of the matter and the hearing is due next week.

In court today it was heard that the case is under review as Mr McCrea is again an newly elected MP.
