Lung transplant patient speaks publicly for first time

The 56-year-old Limerick woman who underwent Ireland's first ever lung transplant two weeks ago has thanked all those involved in the procedure.

Veronica Doyle, an emphysema sufferer who had to wear an oxygen mask 24 hours a day, underwent the operation at Dublin's Mater Hospital on May 12.

Speaking at a press conference at the hospital today, she paid tribute to her three children, the staff of the Mater and surgeons Jim Egan and Freddie Wood.

She also thanked her donor for giving her the opportunity to enjoy her life.
