Govt sets up scheme to reduce out-patient waiting lists

Five thousand public out-patients are to be treated by private consultants under a government initiative announced yesterday in an effort to reduce waiting lists.

Out-patient waiting lists have never been officially published, but some patients can apparently be forced to wait up to seven years to see a specialist.
