A 24-year-old man has died in hospital after being washed into the sea while fishing on the Co Waterford coast yesterday evening.

A 24-year-old man has died in hospital after being washed into the sea while fishing on the Co Waterford coast yesterday evening.

The man, who is from Killenaule in Co Tipperary, was fishing at Newtown Cove near Tramore when he was washed off the rocks by a wave.

He was rescued by a coastguard helicopter shortly after 8pm and taken to Waterford Regional Hospital, where he died early this morning.
