Cash and cigarettes stolen from Co Roscommon post office

A gang of raiders has escaped with an unknown sum of money and a large quantity of cigarettes following an overnight robbery at a post office in Co Roscommon.

The thieves cut the telephone wires to disable the alarm at the post office in Athleague.

They also managed to open the safe, but gardaí said they didn't yet know how much money was taken.

A black car was seen speeding away from the scene toward Ballygar at around 5am.
