Road projects run €400m over budget
The Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee on Transport has released a report which shows the cost of building new roads between 2000 and 2003 was almost €400m more than originally projected.
The Neagh by pass was forecast at €21m but ended up costing €42m.
The Drogheda bypass alone over-ran by €132m.
The Castleisland-Ballycarthy Road in Kerry was budgeted at €21m, but ultimately cost €10m more.
The Patrickswell road to Cork City overran by € 35m.
Details of the financial over-runs are in the latest report from the Oireachtas Public Accounts Transport Committee published today.
