Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams was today comfortably elected in the British parliamentary elections in the North.

As unionists and nationalists anxiously awaited results from the North's 17 other Westminster seats, Mr Adams retained his West Belfast seat with a resounding majority over the SDLP’s Alex Attwood.
