Cowen: Ireland won't be forced to change divorce law

The Government has insisted Ireland will not be forced to change its divorce laws as part of plans to harmonise the system throughout the European Union.

Reports this morning said the planned harmonisation could pave the way for some divorces in Ireland without the four-year separation clause included in the 1995 divorce referendum.
