Three children were knocked down and injured while on their way to school in Derry today.

They were taken to the Altnagelvin Hospital after being hit by a car in the Waterside.

A car had stopped in Crescent Link close to the local fire station to let the children cross the road and another car ran into the back of it shunting it forward into the youngsters, said a police service spokesman.

It is understood the pupils suffered leg injuries that were not too serious.

The woman driver of the car which ran into the back of the other vehicle was also taken to hospital.

An Ambulance Service spokesman said they quickly had three ambulances on the scene, treated the injured and took them to the Altnagelvin.

“None of them are thought to have life threatening injuries,” he said.
