Five people have died and two others have been seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Cork and Dublin.

Two young men, believed to be brothers in their late teens or early 20s, died when the car they were travelling in collided with another vehicle outside Midleton in Co Cork yesterday evening.

A man in his 40s, who was driving the second car, was also seriously injured in the crash, which happened on the Cloyne road just after 6pm.

In Dublin, meanwhile, three people died in the early hours of this morning when the car they were travelling in hit a parked truck on the North Circular Road.

A fourth person was seriously injured in the crash, which happened at Hanlon's Corner at around 3.20am.

Part of the road is expected be closed until lunchtime while investigations into the crash continue.
