Jury retire in 'Reclaim the Streets' garda case

The jury in the trial of a garda accused of striking a protester with his baton at the Mayday 2000 "Reclaim the Streets" protest in Dublin city centre, has been sent to a hotel overnight.

The jury in the trial of a garda accused of striking a protester with his baton at the Mayday 2000 "Reclaim the Streets" protest in Dublin city centre, has been sent to a hotel overnight.

Garda Paul Tallon has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, to assault causing harm to Mr Fergal Leddy on May 6, 2002.

Judge Joseph Mathews sent the jury away for the night when it failed to reach a decision after deliberating for almost four and a half hours.

The jury of ten men and two women will resume deliberations tomorrow morning at 11am on day nine of the hearing.
