Report into Gama practises to be given to Gardaí and Revenue

Enterprise Minister Micheal Martin has told the Seanad that he will be giving a report on the treatment of Turkish workers by the Gama construction firm to the Gardaí and the Revenue Commissioners.

The Labour Inspectorate report was commissioned after the workers mounted a campaign against the company, claiming they were paid as little as €2 an hour.

Gama subsequently said the remainder of their wages had been lodged in a Dutch bank in their names.

The workers said they were never told about these accounts and have sought help from the Government to recover the money.

Mr Martin said this morning that he had contacted the bank and had received assurances that the workers would get their money.

He also said the report into the matter would be given to both the Gardaí and the Revenue Commissioners.

The report has not been published as Gama is taking High Court proceedings in an attempt to prevent it from being made public.
