Group calls for eco-friendly transport system
An environmental group has launched a plan outlining how a more environmentally friendly transport system could be established in Ireland.
The plan from Sustainable Transport Ireland envisages an integrated network of bus, rail and underground services throughout the country and in urban areas.
Speaking at the launch of the document, spokesman Brian Guckian said the plan could be funded by spending less money on unsustainable road projects.
"If we go for more sustainable road designs, we can actually free up huge amounts of money that can be spent on new railways, new rails services, new bus services," he claimed.
"We're not talking about additional funding. We're just talking about making better use of the funds that have been committed to date."
