Dublin anti-drug scheme calls for extra funding
The organisers of a pilot scheme designed to break the cycle of drug abuse and criminality among young people are seeking extra resources to extend the project.
The so-called "arrest referral" scheme in Dublin's north inner city encourages young offenders with drug problems to take part in a co-ordinated process involving assessment and treatment or their addiction.
The scheme involves gardaĂ, the local drugs task force, the local health board and community workers.
Mel MacGiobuin, the co-ordinator of the project, said without additional resources the "potential of the pilot to achieve any significant success is severely limited".
