ARA seeks to freeze murdered drug dealer’s £180,000 assets

The North's Assets Recovery Agency has begun a court action to freeze the assets of a drug dealer who was murdered in west Belfast four years ago.

The agency, which is modelled on the Republic's Criminal Assets Bureau, is seeking to gain control of £180,000 (€263,000) in assets belonging to Paul Patrick Daly.

The assets include a share of a house on Laurelgrove Dale in Belfast and all the proceeds due to be paid by by an accidental death insurance policy.

Mr Daly, a Catholic father-of-four, was shot dead while sitting in his car in west Belfast with his partner and 12-year-old daughter in 2001.

The murder was blamed on the Provisional IRA.
