The Coast Guard has rescued two people from a boat that lost power off the coast of Co Galway this morning.

The Celtic Star's two-man crew made an emergency call after the vessel's engine failed and it began drifting dangerously close to rocks off Killeen Point, near Casla Bay.

The two men were rescued by the Aran Islands Lifeboat at around 11am and are said to be safe and well.

Attempts are continuing to secure their boat and tow it to shore, but conditions in the area are reported to be poor.
