Gardaí were due to escort raided van
Gardaí have confirmed they were due to provide an escort for the security van that was robbed in Dublin this morning.
However, they and the Army were waiting for the vehicle at a rendezvous point in the city centre when it made an unplanned stop at a filling station in Artane and was held up.
An armed gang stole more than €2.5m before making their getaway.
The Minister for Justice Michael McDowell has criticised the security company for a procedural lapse and is calling representatives of the industry before him tomorrow.
