The Government is set to get tough on the sale of fireworks.

The Minister for Justice has proposed to increase the penalties for illegal importation, sale and use of fireworks.

Micheal McDowell has also planned to make possession of a firework with intent to supply a new offence.

Currently, the devices can only be imported by pyrotechnics who are granted a licence by the Minister.
