GAMA reveal payroll mistake led to wage errors

GAMA Construction says an internal review of payroll procedures found errors in the calculation of payments to expatriate employees in Ireland.

On average, this has resulted in employees receiving 8% less than their entitlement over a limited period of time.

GAMA says the shortfall was discovered last week during a review of payment procedures by management and company advisors and the company immediately made good the amounts due to each employee. An interest payment has also been added to the amounts paid.

GAMA says an investigation is underway to discover how this breach of the company’s policies and procedures occurred.

The company says a number of individuals have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

In a statement today GAMA says the lowest rate paid to GAMA employees is €12.96 per hour and many are paid more.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin has suspended the issuing of new work permits to GAMA Construction pending an investigation into the payroll errors.
