Local residents slam planned prison for north Co Dublin
Local residents have reportedly expressed strong opposition to the Government’s plans to construct a new “super prison” in the Thornton area of north Co Dublin.
Reports this morning said several hundred residents attended a public meeting last night to discuss the proposed prison complex.
Those in attendance reportedly attacked the Government’s arrogance and the lack of an appeals mechanism in the planning process for the prison, saying they were being denied their democratic rights.
The meeting was told that the proposed site of the prison was zoned for agricultural use and was located in a mainly farming community with no roads infrastructure and no public transport to accommodate the prison development.
