Government sources have indicated that the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition will not oppose Fine Gael's plans to hold an early by-election in the Meath constituency.

Fine Gael is planning to move the writ for the vote today as the departing TD, former Taoiseach John Bruton, is a member of the party.
