Attempts are being made to evacuate a group of Irish tourists who have been stranded in bad weather on the border between France and Spain for almost a day.

The group of 75 people were travelling in two coaches from the French city of Toulouse to Andorra when they become stuck in the Pyrenees mountains following a heavy snowfall yesterday evening.

A third coach with 32 people on board managed to reach its destination after several hours.

The tourists were travelling with the Irish tour companies Panorama and First Choice, which said local authorities were using snow ploughs to reach the passengers and transfer them to the resort of Pasa de la Casa.
