Major hotel and golf resort planned at Abbeyville

The owners of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey's Abbeyville estate in Dublin are planning to build a hotel, golf course and residential development on the 230-acre site.

Reports this morning said Manor Park Homebuilders was seeking planning permission for a 70-bedroom hotel with spa and leisure centre, an 18-hole championship golf course with clubhouse, a 344-space car park and 46 four to six-bedroom homes.

Manor Park bought the Abbeville estate in Kinsealy from the Haughey family for €45m in 2003.

Charles Haughey and his wife, Maureen, were allowed to remain living on the estate, but this morning's reports said they were expected to move if and when building work began.
