An Post hearing begins in Labour Court
The Labour Court has begun a hearing today into a dispute over An Post's plan to lay off 1,400 workers as part of a cost-cutting programme.
The dispute was referred to the Court late last year when the Communications Workers Union voted to reject the restructuring plan, which also included a reduction in overtime.
An Post had offered its workers a 5.35% pay increase in return for their co-operation on the cutbacks, which it says are vital to ensure the future of the company.
The CWU has accepted the need for restructuring, but has claimed the plan put forward by An Post management would lead to the “total destruction” of the company.
