Office of Tobacco Control reports 50 complaints weekly

The Office of Tobacco Control is getting up to 50 calls a week from members of the public reporting breaches of the ban.

The office which is responsible for policing the smoking ban says most of its callers complained to the manager of the premises first but were ignored.

In many cases several complaints centred on the same establishment.

14 licensed premises have been prosecuted to date for breaching the ban.

Compliance is running at 99% in restaurants and 91% in pubs.
