Church report highlights concern over alcohol abuse

The Church of Ireland Primate Dr Robin Eames has described statistics on alcohol abuse and young people as frightening.

Our youngsters are the heaviest drinkers in Europe, and one in five emergency admissions at hospitals are alcohol-related.

But a report by the Church of Ireland has said, as a nation, we are now moving from denial to concern.

Dr Eames has also said the proposals for 24-hour licences in the North would be a retrograde step.
