Gardaí in Midleton have extended the detention period of the 20-year-old man being questioned in connection with Robert Holohan's death.

The man can now be held until 7.30pm tonight by which time gardaí will have to decide whether to arrest or release him.

Gardaí in Co Cork earlier sealed off a house near Midleton as part of their investigation into the death of 11-year-old Robert Holohan.

The house, which is located a number of miles from the youngster’s home in Ballyedmond, is being examined for forensic evidence.

Last night, the 20-year-old man was arrested in Midleton in connection with the death of the schoolboy, whose body was found in undergrowth near Inch Strand last Wednesday.

He had been missing since disappearing eight days previously after leaving his home on the bicycle he received as a Christmas present.
