The State is reportedly losing out on €2m annually due to its inability to impose traffic fines on foreign motorists who commit offences in Ireland.

Reports this morning said more than 22,000 non-Irish drivers had received penalty points since the system was introduced two years ago, but the Department of Transport had conceded that it was unable to impose an effective sanction on these motorists.
