Nurses are to seek the cancellation of all planned admissions to hospitals across the State for one week to ease overcrowding on accident and emergency wards, it was confirmed tonight.

The Irish Nurses Organisations (INO) said it would be seeking a number of emergency measures to put an end to the high numbers of people spending long periods of time on trolleys.
