Elderly woman killed in Buttevant fire
A woman in her 80’s was killed today after a fire broke out at her home in Co Cork.
Units of the local fire brigade and gardaí were called to the house on Buttevant's Main Street at around 6.45am.
The roof of the building is believed to have partially collapsed as a result of the blaze, which also brought traffic in the town to a standstill for a time this morning.
Fire-fighters spent a number of hours tackling the blaze and later recovered the body of the woman from inside the house.
The woman’s body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.
No one else was present in the house at the time and foul play is not suspected.
