High winds force diversion of planes from Dublin Airport

Around 2,000 air passengers had their travel plans disrupted last night when high winds forced some 18 planes to divert from Dublin Airport to Shannon.

Half of the affected passengers were taken to Dublin by bus last night, but the remainder had to wait until around 6am today for more buses to become available.

Ground staff at Shannon Airport remained on duty to help the stranded passengers overnight.

A special Aer Lingus flight also carried around 200 of the passengers from Shannon to Dublin this morning.
