Teen charged with prostitution warned to stay away
A teenage girl charged with prostitution has been ordered by a judge to stay away from a notorious red light district.
The 17-year-old girl was brought before the Children’s Court charged under section 7 of the Criminal Law Sexual Offences Act for loitering in a public place with intent to solicit or importune another person for the purposes of prostitution, at Benburb Street, D7, on January 4.
The girl, who resides with her mother in temporary accommodation, is out of school and not employed, Judge David Maughan was told.
Arresting garda Brian Quirke, attached to the Bridewell station, asked the court to insert a number of conditions on the girl’s bail bond which she must comply with.
He asked the court to order the girl to reside at her current address, a B&B, obey a curfew requiring her to be there from 10pm until 7am the following morning.
The garda also requested another condition of bail forbidding the teenage girl to stay away from the Benburb St area.
The girl, who was in court with her mother, was released on condition bail and ordered to obey all the conditions requested by garda Quirke.
Judge Maughan remanded her on bail for three weeks when she is to indicate a plea.
