Burnt-out vehicle may be linked to shooting
Police were today examining a burnt-out vehicle which they believed could be linked to the shooting of a man in his home.
The 52-year-old man was shot in the leg and struck with a hammer-type weapon after a gang of five men entered his house in Barrack Street in Coalisland, Co Tyrone shortly before 10.30pm last night.
The gang entered the house by a rear door and also struck the man’s wife, who suffered minor injuries.
The victim’s condition was not believed to be life threatening.
Detectives closed off two streets in the town today while they examined the burnt-out vehicle.
Barrack Street, in the vicinity of St Joseph’s High School, and the Tullaghbeg Road, close to Newmills, were closed during the forensic examination.
