Weather warning issued to drivers

Police urged motorists to take care today after thunderstorms swept across Northern Ireland.

Driving rain and hail made driving conditions extremely hazardous, especially on the M2 near Templepatrick.

The Clooney Road, the main route from Derry to Limavady – near the village of Greysteel – was flooded.

The road remained open but police advised the public to avoid the area if possible.

A spokeswoman advised motorists to slow down, be aware of heavy surface water and to use headlights during the storms.
