Race against Waste begins after Christmas holiday

Recycling centres are reopened today in Dublin and Cork and householders are being asked to recycle what's left over after the Christmas celebrations.

The Department of the Environment has said that it is easy to cut down on the amount of waste we generate over the holiday season.

They say that a little can go along way in the Race against Waste.

Boxes and wrapping paper can be reused, saving you money and giving the environment a break at Christmas, they said.

Bring centres in Dublin City, South Dublin County and Cork County Council areas are accepting empty drink cans, bottles and other recyclables from today.

Christmas tree recycling centres are expected to be opened in the next few days. All the country’s Bring Centres will be reopened from Wednesday.
