Christmas weather warning issued by Met Éireann

Met Éireann has said we could be in for a white Christmas this year.

They have issued a severe weather warning for the festive weekend with freezing temperatures in the offing for the whole country on Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day.

There will also be hail and sleet with snow most likely in Connacht, Ulster and west Munster.

Aidan Nulty of Met Éireann has said we are in for the coldest Christmas for a while.

“We have had very mild Christmas for the last number of years and there has been very little in the way of snow, temperatures on most Christmas days have been in the double figures in the last few years.”

“You could call [this year] the coldest Christmas of the century.”
