Gardaí in Galway are appealing for witnesses to an accident in Co Galway which left one woman dead and a man seriously injured in hospital.

Gardaí in Galway are appealing for witnesses to an accident in Co Galway which left one woman dead and a man seriously injured in hospital.

The accident happened on the main road between Gort and Crusheen at Caherheeneymore just after midday today.

The woman killed was a passenger of a van in which the driver was seriously injured. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Meanwhile Gardaí in Kilkenny have named the 34-year-old woman killed yesterday in a road accident in Kilkenny as Seona Tait, from Murrayfield in Scotland.

She died when the car she was driving was involved in a collision with an articulated lorry on the N10 at Flagmount, Gowran, Co Kilkenny at 9.20am on Friday.

Both drivers were taken to St Luke's hospital in Kilkenny where Seona died later from her injuries.

The condition of the lorry driver is not known.
