Thousands attend postal workers' protest
Thousands of postal workers have turned out at a rally in Dublin to highlight their ongoing dispute with An Post management.
The workers are engaging in a one-day strike today to protest at what they describe as the company's failure to honour a number of union-management agreements.
The main points of contention are An Post's decision to close its SDS parcel delivery service and its failure to award pay increases due under the social partnership process a year ago.
The strikers, members of the Communications Workers Union, marched from the Garden of Remembrance in Parnell Square to the Dail this lunchtime in an effort to bring attention to their plight.
Speaking at the march, CWU spokesman Sean McDonagh said: "Our patience is worn thin. Our members are very angered and frustrated, as can be seen by the tremendous support we have here today.
"Hopefully the Government and hopefully An Post management will now listen to their staff."
