Irish Ferries to lay off 150 more staff
Irish Ferries is reportedly set to lay off a further 150 staff today due to ongoing strike action by SIPTU members at the company.
The move will bring to 500 the number of employees removed from the payroll since the all-out strike action began on Monday.
The action was arranged in protest at Irish Ferries’ decision to outsource jobs on its Ireland-France route to cheaper foreign workers.
Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin has urged both sides to enter talks at the Labour Relations Commission, but the company is reportedly refusing to do so while the strike is ongoing.
Irish Ferries' parent company Irish Continental began its day's trading on the ISEQ at €10.90.
