An Post threatens to sue union
An Post has warned the Communication Workers' Union that it will sue for any losses arising from strike action threatened by postal workers.
Last Friday, the CWU voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action if any existing agreements with the company are broken.
In a letter sent to the general secretary of the CWU, An Post said it is unaware of any dispute existing between the company and the CWU in relation to the Labour Relations Commission settlement terms reached last March.
It said that if a dispute existed it would have been referred back to the LRC in a bid to resolve it, or failing that the Labour Court.
It has said if the CWU takes strike action An Post will take action itself, aiming to recover any losses arising from the union.
This evening Steve Fitzpatrick of the CWU has said that they have not seen the letter.
Mr Fitzpatrick has said the CWU referred its concerns about the future of the SDS service to the Labour Relations Commission and have said An Post should do likewise.
