Schoolchildren want more gardaí on roads, says survey

A large Garda presence on Irish roads is one of the top priorities for Irish schoolchildren, according to a survey by insurance group FBD released today as part of the FBD/NPCPP Think Safety First Campaign.

The nationwide campaign targeted over 800 schools to encourage school children to become more aware of the importance of safety on the road, on the farm and in the workplace.

Minister for Transport Martin Cullen said: "The results of this campaign are really encouraging, there appears to be a real acceptance among schoolchildren that individuals and businesses must take responsibility and ensure that safety regulations are followed on the roads and in the workplace," he said.
