Live Register figures down by 1,600

The seasonally-adjusted Live Register total decreased from 163,700 in September to 162,100 in October, a decrease of 1,600, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The seasonally-adjusted Live Register total decreased from 163,700 in September to 162,100 in October, a decrease of 1,600, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

This compares with a decrease of 800 in October last year.

The unadjusted total in October this year decreased by 4,990 (-3.1%) people to 155,476. The corresponding decrease in October last year was 4,270 (-2.5%). In the year to October 2004 there was an unadjusted decrease of 11,076 (-6.7%). This compares to an unadjusted decrease of 10,356 (-6.1%) recorded in the year to September 2004.

The CSO figures also revealed:

- The monthly decrease in the Seasonally Adjusted series was made up of 900 males and 700 females.

- The standardised unemployment rate in October was 4.4%. This compares with 4.6% in April 2004, based on the Quarterly National Household Survey.

- In the month, the estimated number of casual and part-time workers onthe Live Register was 7,877 males and 12,821 females.
