ESB to refund 3,000 customers after over-charging blunder

The ESB is to refund almost €1m to 3,000 of its domestic customers after admitting that it has been over-charging them for the past six years.

The company said it had accidentally levied standing charges on the customers at the rural rate despite the fact that they should have been charged the lower urban rate.
