285 jobs to be lost at Donegal yarn company
285 jobs are to go at the Unifi yarn company in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
The Letterkenny plant is closing its doors today after 20 years manufacturing high-quality car upholstery and sports gear.
Unifi yarn was used in most of the 32 team kits in the 2002 World Cup.
Huge financial losses and spiralling production costs have forced the US-based company to shut down its European operation.
Unifi is reportedly looking to relocate in the cheaper production base of China.
