Irish parents view internet as biggest risk to children

Irish parents see the internet as their primary source of concern regarding the viewing of unsuitable material by their children, according to research commissioned by the Internet Advisory Board.

The board said almost half of parents questioned in the study regarded the internet as a potential source of access to unsuitable material. 28% had similar concerns about digital television.

The Internet Advisory Board said more than 80% of children questioned said there was usually someone else present to monitor their internet usage.

It also said that, despite the increasing availability of mobile phones, DVDs and other media, internet access via computers remained parents' primary source of concern regarding access to unsuitable material.
