Two quizzed over fatal attack
Gardaí were questioning two men today over the fatal assault of a 38-year-old as he celebrated Kerry’s All-Ireland football final victory.
Gerard O’Leary from Coolroe, Listry in the county was injured after he was involved in a row outside a pub in the mid-Kerry village of Milltown on the night of the final.
The men, aged 24 and 51-years-old, were arrested in the mid-Kerry region this morning and detained for questioning at Killarney Garda Station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
Mr O’Leary had been out celebrating the county’s success against Mayo on Sunday September 26, when he was injured at around midnight after the match.
The 38-year-old was rushed to Kerry General Hospital and then taken on to Cork University Hospital for emergency surgery for head injuries. He was in a critical condition in intensive care for nine days before he lost his life in early October.
The two men can be detained at Killarney garda station for 12-hours for questioning.
