Primary school children to participate in Tree Day
All 450,000 primary school children across Ireland will leave their school bags at home and spend the day learning about trees in a fun and relaxed environment on Thurday, October 14.
As part of this year’s eighth annual Tree Day, over 100,000 children from primary schools will get the chance to take part in guided woodland walks at over 120 locations around the country.
The aim of Tree Day is to create a learning experience that will enthuse and enlighten all children by making them aware of the magic, beauty and importance of trees.
The 2004 Tree Day is sponsored by ENFO, Forest Service, Department of Agriculture & Food and Tetra Pak.
Commenting on Tree Day, John McLoughlin, executive director of the tree council of Ireland said: “We recognise the importance of primary school children learning about and taking an appreciation of their environment. We are urging as many schools across the country as possible to walk and appreciate our forests.”
To support Tree Day, a comprehensive resource pack on the subject of trees is available in all schools. It covers over 40 topics based on the subject of trees.
