Kerry man dies from injuries sustained in Milltown assault

Gardaí in Co Kerry have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who sustained serious head injuries in an assault in the village of Milltown nine days ago.

The 38-year-old victim has been named locally as Gerard O'Leary, from Listry.

He had been in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital since the assault on the night of the All-Ireland football final and lost his fight for life this morning.

Mr O'Leary was out celebrating Kerry's victory over Mayo when he was attacked by two men sometime between midnight and 12.30am on September 26/27.
