Two members of Irish Red Cross to travel to Afghanistan
Two members of the Irish Red Cross are on their way to Afghanistan this weekend to help with one of the world's largest, but mostly forgotten, humanitarian emergencies.
Engineer Dennis Kaiser from Churchtown in Dublin will be based in the Afghan capital Kabul.
He will be helping to provide clean drinking water to thousands of Afghans by restoring supply networks damaged during decades of conflict.
Meanwhile Air Operations Manager Willie Norton, from Dalkey in Dublin, will be co-ordinating aid flights into Afghanistan from across the border in Pakistan.
The Red Cross base in Peshawar channels in tonnes of food and other aid supplies.
