FSAI gets tough against restaurant

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today warned the food industry that it will not tolerate any non-compliance with Enforcement Orders served by authorised officers acting on its behalf.

This warning follows the decision by the High Court today to grant an Order to prevent the owner of a Dublin restaurant from continuing the operation of a food business, and ordering it to close.

Today's legal ruling follows an interim Order served earlier this month which was a consequence of the restaurant breaching a Closure Order.

"We hope that the granting of this High Court Order will serve as a warning to other food businesses of the consequences of non-compliance with food safety legislation and Enforcement Orders," said Alan Reilly, FSAI deputy chief executive.

"The majority of food businesses are doing their best to maintain high standards; however, a small number who disregard the law are bringing adverse publicity on an entire sector."
